What is a meiga?

Though the good folks living in Galicia, the northwestern-most state in Spain, define the word "meiga" as a witch, the Oxford Spanish dictionary defines a meiga as a wise woman. I prefer to use that definition, but I couldn't pass up this adorable witch jpeg in my banner. It also means "sweet" in Portuguese.
